✅ 1. Test Your Water 2–3 Times per Week
Warm weather and heavy pool use can throw your water chemistry off quickly. Regular testing helps you stay ahead of problems.
Target Levels:
- Chlorine: 1–3 ppm
- pH: 7.2–7.6
- Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- Cyanuric Acid (Stabilizer): 30–50 ppm

✅ 2. Shock Weekly (or After Heavy Use)
The 4th of July party? Big weekend swim session? Shock your pool to kill bacteria and break down contaminants like sweat, sunscreen, and leaves.
- Use calcium hypochlorite or non-chlorine shock, depending on your setup.
- Shock at dusk and run the pump overnight for best results.
✅ 3. Keep Your Filter Clean
A dirty or clogged filter can’t circulate water properly, leading to algae and cloudy water.
- Backwash sand or DE filters weekly
- Rinse or replace cartridge filters as needed
- Run your pool pump at least 8–12 hours a day in July
✅ 4. Add Algaecide as a Preventative
Even if you don’t see algae, it may be lurking in corners or pipes.
Adding a weekly dose of algaecide helps prevent green or yellow outbreaks.

- Skim daily for leaves, bugs, and pollen
- Brush walls and steps weekly
